How to script a TikTok people watch to the end

Pick a length you can earn

This preset writes 15-, 30- or 45-second scripts. Across Shotmatic's recipe research the pattern is consistent: shorter videos are finished more often, and completion is a strong distribution signal on TikTok. Use 15 seconds for one sharp point, 30 for a short list or a story with one turn, and 45 only when a second twist earns the extra time. At Shotmatic's planning pace that is about 30, 60 or 90 spoken words.

Win the first second

The swipe decision happens almost instantly, so the stakes have to arrive in the first three words, spoken and on screen together. Skip the setup sentence, the intro card and the "so, this is a story about". The first caption works like a pinned headline: it states the promise in eight words or fewer while the voice starts.

Write for the sound-off scroll

Plenty of people watch TikTok with the sound low or off, which makes captions part of the script rather than an afterthought. Every beat in the output carries its own on-screen line. Keep sentences short, with one idea each, so they read well as captions. If a line only makes sense when you hear the delivery, rewrite it.

Structures that suit the feed

Fast structures fit TikTok best: a listicle with the best item last, a problem and its fix, a reveal, a before and after, expectation versus reality, or a day in the life. The preset leaves out slow flashbacks, picks the structure that fits your idea, and names it under the script along with the hook formula and the ending it used.

Re-hook around fifteen seconds

In 30- and 45-second scripts, attention dips around the fifteen-second mark. A half-sentence tease folded into that beat, such as "but the third one surprised me", bridges the dip without adding a slow beat of its own. The TikTok preset places one there.

A 15-second script has no room for a re-hook, so every line has to pull its own weight: the hook, one point, the payoff and the ask.

End on a comment, a follow or a save

Comments and follows tell TikTok a video landed, so the endings this preset allows are built to earn them: a call to action, a question, a challenge, a cliffhanger for part two, or a teaser for the next video. Ask for one thing only. "Comment the number that got you" beats "like, follow and share".

Make it in Shotmatic

A Faceless Short renders a vertical 9:16 video from your script, with AI narration, AI visuals and captions. Shotmatic doesn't post to TikTok for you: download the video and upload it in the TikTok app, which is also where you can add a trending sound. Renders use Shotmatic's built-in soundtracks.

Questions

Can Shotmatic post to TikTok for me?

No. You download the finished video and upload it to TikTok yourself, which is also where you would add a trending sound.

Do I need an account?

No. Anyone can generate up to 3 times a day, shared across Shotmatic's script tools, without signing up. You need an account to turn a script into a video.

What does it cost?

Generating here needs no account and no payment, up to 3 times a day. In Shotmatic's creator, an AI script draft costs 20 credits, and every video shows its credit cost before you create it.

Are the results checked?

For form, yes. Before you see a result, Shotmatic removes warm-up openers, stage directions and emojis, keeps hooks within 14 words and trims scripts to the length you chose. It doesn't check facts: replace any [bracketed placeholder] and verify every claim before you publish.

Which AI writes them?

OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini, guided by Shotmatic's hook rules and the story structures its creator uses. The saved examples on this page were made by the same engine.
