How to write a UGC-style ad script that converts
Problem, agitate, solve, prove, ask
Most UGC-style ads that convert follow the same arc, told the way one customer would tell a friend. The 30-second script has five beats:
- Hook and problem: name the frustration so precisely that the right viewer thinks "that's me".
- Agitate: make the cost concrete, in time, money or the alternatives that failed.
- Solve: the product arrives as the discovery, framed as lived experience, with one benefit.
- Proof: one specific result, ideally with a timeframe, or someone else who noticed the change.
- Ask: one soft next step.
The 15-second version drops the agitate beat and lets the hook carry the problem.
Hold the product back
With a problem-led hook, the product's name waits until the solve beat. The unresolved problem is what keeps people watching until the reveal, and naming the brand in the first line turns the video into an ad before it has earned any attention. Lead with the brand only when the hook is about the brand or the offer itself.
One benefit, one ask
Stacking three benefits and two offers loses viewers. Pick the benefit that answers the problem you named, and end with a single next step. Match the ask to the audience: a soft, peer-style recommendation works on people who have never heard of you, while a deadline or a code belongs only in ads where the offer is real.
Never invent proof
UGC works because it reads like a real person's experience, so invented results, reviews or discounts damage trust and can break advertising rules. This generator only uses the proof and the offer you type in. Leave the proof empty and the script marks the spot with [your real result]. It also lists every claim in the script that you'll need to substantiate before the ad runs.
Read it out loud
Read the script aloud at speaking pace before you make anything. If a line sounds like a brochure, rewrite it the way you'd text a friend: contractions, a pause, one specific detail. A voice reading polished ad copy is the fastest way to sound like an ad.
Write hooks in batches
The opening seconds drive most of an ad's results, so keep one body and test several openings. The hook generator writes five for one idea, each built on a different reason to watch.
What Shotmatic makes from it
"Turn this script into a video" opens the creator as a Faceless Short with the script in place: AI narration over AI visuals, with captions. For product footage, the creator's UGC Ad format builds a narrated video from a product brief using your own photos and clips or AI visuals; it does not cast an AI actor. For a presenter, Talking Avatar puts your script on a presenter you choose and shows a credit quote before rendering.
Questions
Can I use these scripts with AI actors?
Shotmatic's UGC Ad format has no AI actor. You can read the script yourself, give it to a creator you hire, or use Talking Avatar to put it on a presenter you choose.
Do I need an account?
No. Anyone can generate up to 3 times a day, shared across Shotmatic's script tools, without signing up. You need an account to turn a script into a video.
What does it cost?
Generating here needs no account and no payment, up to 3 times a day. In Shotmatic's creator, an AI script draft costs 20 credits, and every video shows its credit cost before you create it.
Are the results checked?
For form, yes. Before you see a result, Shotmatic removes warm-up openers, stage directions and emojis, keeps hooks within 14 words and trims scripts to the length you chose. It doesn't check facts: replace any [bracketed placeholder] and verify every claim before you publish.
Which AI writes them?
OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini, guided by Shotmatic's hook rules and the story structures its creator uses. The saved examples on this page were made by the same engine.
